What do you enjoy the most about teaching?

Helping others to know God and His Son Jesus Christ, and to get closer to Him relationally.

What is the main theme/ application you want your students to get from your class?

Holy Spirit uses Truth to sanctify and protect the students (Jn 17:17)

How has preparing to teach this class affected your spiritual life/ grown you spiritually?

By immersion into the subject, I sense God cleansing me and making me stronger. My joy and satisfaction grow as I prepare, knowing I’m in the will of God. Very uplifting and refreshing.

Charlianne is a student in our theology class this semester. Below is a glimpse of what she has been learning.

What did you enjoy the most about this class?

Joe Holden does an excellent job of explaining the theological terms and ideas from the ground up, so that no knowledge is assumed to be known by the students, and everyone can understand the teaching.

What has stood out to you the most, and how can you use this to benefit you in the future?

The 7 doctrine papers required by the course have had me, and my classmates, evaluate what we truly believe and why we believe it. These papers have been a priceless resource for understanding exactly what I believe based on what Scripture teaches, as well as how to explain it accurately to anyone I am sharing the Gospel with.

How can you practically apply what you have learned to your life?

The things being taught in class and in the Doctrinal Homework Papers is helping me to articulate what it is I believe. It helps me both solidify my own faith as well as enable me to share the Gospel more effectively and fully.

If you were recommending this class to a friend, what would you tell them?

Theology is a study beneficial to any believer, whether they received Christ a day ago or a few decades ago. Particularly with a professor as knowledgeable and articulate as Joe Holden, the class is indispensable for anyone who desires to know God, His heart, and His desires for His people and our lives. The fundamentals of the Christian faith can be difficult to understand but between the instructor, the homework assignments, and the reading, the Theology class provides students with an invaluable foundation in Christian beliefs.

Alex is one also one of the students enrolled in our Theology class. Below are his thoughts on the class.

What did you enjoy the most about this class?

I enjoyed the sheer privilege of getting to know God more. The true characteristics of God stretch farther than we could ever imagine and the fact that He permits us to pursue Him is perhaps the most beautiful gift we could ever receive.

What has stood out to you the most, and how can you use this to benefit you in the future?

The greatest thing that has stood out to me in this class is that despite God’s vast deity, God still allows us to stand within His presence. In God, we have the utmost privilege of being able to learn more and more about His theology.

How can you practically apply what you have learned to your life?

God has counted us higher than the angels and greater than creation itself making our worth through grace by faith so much more. I can be confident in knowing that God’s heart toward me is all-sufficient; making my confidence in believing in Him worthwhile.

If you were recommending this class to a friend, what would you tell them?

Don’t let personal opinions of God’s theology define or dictate His true and perfect character. God wants you to fall in love with Him and you’ll find that evident in His theology and holy atmosphere. Allow God to wrap you in His arms of everlasting love.
