This course, The Life of David, is a survey of 1st and 2nd Samuel as well as gaining light from various Psalms and portions of 1st Chronicles. There will be an emphasis on God’s work in David’s life, shaping him to be the king of Israel. We will see this in its historical context of the transitional period in Israel from the times of the prophets to the establishment of a hereditarial monarchy, and the Davidic Covenant. The purpose of this class is that we, after seeing God’s faithfulness in David’s life, would narrow our desire down to one thing, even as David did. As it is written, “One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in His temple. For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion: in the secret of His tabernacle shall He hide me; He shall set me up upon a rock.” Psalms 27:4-5
