At Calvary Chapel Bible College, we don’t just teach students how to follow Jesus; we teach them to follow the voice of the Shepherd.
One of our core values is We Rely on the Spirit. That’s not just a phrase; it’s a posture. It means that we are committed to the leading and empowering of the Holy Spirit in every part of life and ministry.
We have a program. We have a plan. But we also have a living Lord who leads, speaks, redirects, and empowers. And He always knows best.
Not Self-Sufficient Graduates, but Spirit-Dependent Disciples
The goal of Bible college isn’t to produce people who know all the answers or who can run a ministry on their own strength. We’re not preparing students to be independent and self-sufficient—we’re preparing them to be deeply dependent on the Holy Spirit.
Jesus said, “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me” (John 10:27).
At CCBC, our goal is that every student would learn to recognize the voice of the Shepherd and follow His leading, not just during their time here, but for the rest of their lives.
We Teach Our Students to Hear
Relying on the Spirit means cultivating more than knowledge. It means growing in relationship.
We teach our students to:
- Listen for the Spirit’s voice through the Word and in prayer
- Wait on His timing and be sensitive to His prompting
- Discern between their own thoughts and the Lord’s direction
- Stay yielded, humble, and willing to be led, even when it costs them
This isn’t mystical. It’s deeply biblical. In Acts, the Spirit speaks, directs, forbids, and sends. He still does.
We Help Students Discern Their Calling and Gifts
Relying on the Spirit also means helping students understand how God has uniquely called and gifted them.
Through intentional discipleship, practical ministry opportunities, and the presence of mature mentors, students at CCBC are invited to discover:
- What the Spirit is calling them to do
- How He has equipped them to serve
- Where and with whom He is sending them
We believe that every student has a role in the body of Christ. And the Spirit, not a syllabus, reveals that role.
You Never Know When the Spirit Will Lead
We believe in planning with excellence, but we also believe in leaving room for the Spirit to move.
That means:
- Sometimes class ends in prayer
- Sometimes chapel turns into extended worship
- Sometimes the whole community pauses for spontaneous service or intercession
We create a structure, but we hold it loosely. Because we know that God is present, active, and able to lead us better than we can lead ourselves.
A Living Lord at the Center of It All
At CCBC, we rely on the Spirit because we believe Christianity is not a philosophy but rather a relationship with the living God.
He’s not a concept to be studied. He’s a Person to be known, trusted, and followed.
And when we follow Him, we’re not just better students, we become worshipers, witnesses, and servants empowered to do His will.
We rely on the Spirit. Because without Him, we can do nothing. But with Him, anything is possible.
